During his final days, he dreamed constantly of my dear Grandma Helen, who passed away a few years ago. He called to her in his sleep. He dreamed that he was picking green apples for her, so she could make him an apple pie. He missed her and longed for her and wanted so badly to be with her.
I have imagined my Grandma these past few days. I've pictured her peering out of Heaven, giddy as a school girl and begging God to hurry up already, lest the apple pie get cold.
Today, August 5th, exactly on their 72nd wedding anniversary, Grandpa Curly went to Heaven to be with Grandma. I just know she had that hot apple pie waiting.
My heart is completely at peace. Thank you for your prayers. God bless you all!

Oh Sarah, what a beautiful post! Your faith and your strength is a credit to you and your grandparents. God bless them!
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing to have such a wonderful Grandfather. I was blessed in that department too, and it was a honor to be with him when he passed away. May you feel our Lord and our Lady near you in the days ahead. God Bless
ReplyDeleteLovely. The way you wrote this is perfectly lovely. I'm so sorry for your loss Sarah, and yet so happy for Grandma Helen....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post Sarah. The love you have for your Grandpa Curly (and Grandma Helen) is so obvious, anyone can see that they were very a special part of your life. I thank God for His perfect timing, and also for the peace you feel.
ReplyDeleteI can just see that smile on Grandpa Curly's face as he crossed into the next life, looking for Grandma Helen and that warm apple pie! What a reunion they've had!
Keeping you and all your family in my prayers.

My heart aches , yet I know the heavens rejoice! He's probably already walking around telling jokes, bringing laughter, and brightening the already bright heavens the way he did down here!
ReplyDeleteOh Sarah! I've been thinking about you ever since you posted that beautiful tribute to Grandpa Curly the other day. And I've thought often of his words, 'it's later than you think.' I'm so sorry for your loss but so grateful for your love, your peace, your grandpa and your willingness to share him with us, and most of all for Our Lord's mercy and most beautiful, perfect timing. God bless you all. xo

ReplyDeleteWow. That is amazing. I read, recently, about a Jewish legend saying only the most blessed die on their birthdays. I would say a wedding anniversary is pretty blessed as well. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a day of rejoicing it must have been in Heaven! Love the thought that she's waiting for him with an apple pie!
ReplyDeleteI love the visual of a woman waiting with an apple pie for her man. Awesome.
