Dreaming in Blue & Posy's Big Day {daybook}

First things first, you read that right-- BLUE! We're having twin boys! Oh my, if I could have bottled my husband's joy the day we found out.... :) We've evened the teams and my two boys are oh-so-happy about that. We shared the news with our big kids by tying blue balloons to Odwalla juices. Their mix of reactions was quite funny-- surprising in some ways and not so much in others. BOYS! Can you believe it? :)

Aaaand.... Posy had a birthday! Cutest little birthday girl she was, too. We didn't have a party or anything- she's such a little introvert around anyone outside our family, I thought a party might be torture. Plus, I'm lazy. ;) Instead, we doted on her excessively (wait... how is that different from any other day?) and loaded her up with new board books and carrot cake. It was all kinds of happy. And now she is such a big girl.

Outside my window...

Rumor has it we'll hit 50 degrees on Friday- I'll have to see it to believe it.

I am thankful for...

two healthy growing baby boys! This dynamic is good in so many ways. I think Snap had given up hope that he would ever get a brother- to get two at once is just all the better, right? And our little Miss Posy Pie will still reign as princess-in-residence, so that will (hopefully) help her adjust to her impending dethronement. I hope?

I am thinking about...

Boy names. Naturally.

She reacts like her mother. You know.... big.

In the Schoolroom...

We're beginning and ending each day with an hour of reading aloud. I figure (almost) anything else we get to is just gravy. Life is good.

I'm pretty darn excited to get started on Jessica's Papal Lapbook. We haven't begun our Papal Unit Study yet; the lapbook is going to tie everything together so well. Charlotte also posted a lovely coloring page of Pope Benedict XVI that we'll be downloading.

From the kitchen...

Primrose & I made some gluten-free carrot cupcakes for Posy's birthday that were crazy good. If I can get myself organized, I'll post the recipe here soon.

I am creating...

Photography. My Lightroom class started this week. I haven't actually started working on it yet (when exactly did I think I was going to find time for this?), but I'm chomping at the bit and eager to get to work.

I am working on...

my Lightroom skills. I downloaded the first week's lessons and thought my head might possibly explode. This is a good thing, right? I'm going to learn so much in this class!

I am reading...

The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey (I'm loving it so far; the prose is mesmerizing.)
Plate to Pixel: Digital Food Photography & Styling by Helen Dujardin
Holiness for Housewives and Other Working Women (because I can't read this book too many times)
Books! Nothing makes this baby happier than books. She love her new blocks, too (thanks Aunt T!).

I am praying for...

The Holy Father. The cardinals. The Church.
And babies on the way- mine and others, too.

I am hearing...

The other day, Tulip slammed her book shut and sighed, "I hate it when a book leaves me on a hangnail!"
Me: "You mean a cliffhanger?"
Her: "Whatever." (another sigh)
Me too. Those hangnails, I tell ya. :)

Around the house...

I don't want to talk about it. There is more to do than I have hours in the day- that's all there is to it. Some days I cope well with this, other days I do not. Today was a "not" day. Ahem.

She also got her own chair for her birthday, which we much more accurately call her "throne". She sits on it, points, and squalls until the minions bring her the toys she wants. And you KNOW they do. Spoiled much, you think? ;) And don't you just want to eat her toes?

One of my favorite things...

Babies. Good thing too, eh? ;)

A few plans for the rest of the week...

About a hundred hours logged on the couch. Did I mention? I'm only 17 weeks but I'm measuring at 27. As in, TWENTY-SEVEN. As in, no wonder most days I can't be on my feet for longer than an hour without seeing stars. Something tells me this second half of pregnancy is going to be a hum-dinger!

  6. Oh how fun!!!! I love me some boys :) I'm a little nervous if we were to add a girl since things would feel so lopsided what with my liking things even! I am thrilled (and also tired) for you!

  7. So Mama, take a lesson from Posy.Find your throne, point and squeal until the minions bring what you want. Trust me here, it won't last long and you will be back up and running the place. But for now you need to rest as much as you can.
Happy Birthday to Posy and congrats. 2 boys will even the score!

  8. Wowee! Congratulations!, are you worried about miss posey? Reading between the lines a little. She really will be ok. I have five kids, and three are quite close together. The toddlers do very well with new babies. A little thrown at first, but so little that they accept a new normal very quickly. Now preschoolers,,, they don't always accept dethronement quite so readily. :-)

    1. Yeah, you pretty much nailed it. Andy keeps telling me this is ridiculous because she is easily the most loved baby in the universe, and that won't change just because we have more babies to dote on. Plus, there are so many of us to do all the doting! But she is a bit clingy (I've nurtured that in her, I'm afraid), so of course I worry a tad. Your comment made me feel better, though- thank you.

  11. Hey, boys! Congratulations! If you come up with some good boy names, let me know. We've pretty much run out and I'm almost 35 weeks. Eek!

  13. Oh, yay! That is super news! So happy for your Snap, especially! Whoa, Momma. Keep taking those vitamins! Am I the only one who feels boys require more, I don't know, energy from their mothers?!

    Happy birthday to sweet Posy!

    Cliffhanger=funny.

And I have found that carrot cake is the most "normal" tasting gf cake. Would love to see your recipe.

  20. Twin boys here, too. I hope yours don't spend their second year biting and pinching each other as ours did. You will love all the tractor and car noises that a pair of boys can make. Twins are awesome, but I'll have to say I'm awfully glad that ours are three years old now. The first years (& Pregnancy) are so H.A.R.D. Will be praying for all of you.

  26. I am so happy for Snap that he will have brothers. If you had mentioned boys to me 2 yrs ago I would have said no thanks but now that I have one I want more. Noisy and so much energy but so gorgeous. What a treat choosing two names too. I love naming babies and have a long list that I still want to use.

  27. BOYS! Congrats! That wil.l even out the numbers. :)

I finished The Snow Child not long ago and it was amazing. One of the best books I've read in a long time. In fact, it might be one of my favorites. I will have to read it again for it to gain the title for sure.

Isn't Jessica's lapbook amazing? She has such a talent!

AND I am dying for your gf carrot cake recipe! We love carrot cake and hadn't had any in so long. Longer than we have been gf. But there are the birthdays coming up around here and that would be a BIG hit.

  31. Oh, Sarah! BOYS! How perfect is that?! I'm so happy for you, and I know your son is elated. Names - not only do you have to come up with two of them, you have to come up with four of them! Hee-he. They'll need blog names of course. ;-). And you're measuring 27 weeks? Are you sure there's not another little peanut hiding in there? You'd better come up with one more name just in case. ;-) (JK)
    Love the hangnail story. :-)
I'd love to have the gf muffin recipe. We usually make carrot cake for our babies' first birthdays too. Speaking of which it is Blossom's first birthday today, or tomorrow. I'm not really sure which. I know that sounds ludicrous since I'm her mother, but she was a leap day baby and I don't know exactly when we're supposed to celebrate it. ha,ha. I thought we would celebrate it today being the last day of February, but it just didn't "feel" right. So tomorrow it will be! I knew Posy and Blossom were close in age, I just didn't realize how close! Happy Birthday to your sweet girl!

    1. Right?! :) Andy and I were laughing last night that God told us things in small increments for a reason. First he waited till we had adjusted to news of a new baby on the way. Then He let it slip that it was twins. He let that settle in for awhile before admitting that they are twin BOYS. :) Ha!

  34. I have identical twin boys and they are awesome! They just turned seven and are the best of friends! They used to call each other bro when they were toddlers.:) With your photography skills you will have your work cut out for you, nothing like to chubby babies sleeping on top of each other. God bless you and rest!

I actually also just want to say hi. I'm pretty new to your blog- started reading right around the beginning of the year - and I really enjoy it. Its very encouraging and real. It reads like talking to a friend. Thanks for that.

I'm inspired by your daybooks and decided to do one to get me writing more. Just want you to know I linked back.

  40. This is funny--I read this post, because I remember you saying that you were measuring 27 at 17 weeks, but somehow totally missed the first half, and the fact that you are having boys (which explains why I asked you via email!) I just requested The Snow Child from the library.

  41. I have been meaning to ask you where you found that adorable chair for Posy? My sweet baby girl is going to be one next month and I think a "throne" would be a perfect present for her! Congrats by the way...loving your blog!
