Our local public schools are off for the day- something about being a snow make-up day that they didn't use. That's wild. We had SNOW this year, folks, and on a couple of those days, they should have used them! Should've let those kids stay home and avoid the icy hazardous roads! Alas, this is Spokane, and folks in Spokane don't believe in snow days. And I really shouldn't have an opinion, anyway, as my kids don't attend said schools. Anyway, I'm glad the local kids get the day off- it's sunshiney wonderful outside!
We are not having a day off today. On with the usual! I'm such a taskmaster. But we'll head outside this afternoon, too.
Guess what my Valentine did for me? He went and bought me a study-along seat in Processing 101 over at CM University!
Squeeeeeee!!!!
To say I am excited about this is a massive, massive understatement. And as if the workshop isn't enough to squeal over, I just found out that purchasing the month-long workshop gives me access to the CM forums from now through the end of March. The CM forums are jam-packed with crazy awesome tutorials.
Jam-packed. Crazy awesome.
This, of course, means three things:
1. I will not be clothing or feeding my family from now through March. Please don't be too offended if they appear before you, dressed in rags and practically starving. I have photo processing to learn! Priorities, ya know?
2. It is a very, very good thing I did not give up the computer for Lent. On the other hand, clothing the naked and feeding the hungry are common practices for Catholics during Lent- so you see, I'm just trying to help you on your own Lenten journey. By ignoring the needs of my children, I will merely be providing opportunities for your Lenten almsgiving.
3. My poor husband doesn't realize what he just did. I mean, he pretty much wrapped up my valentine's day gift in a pretty bow and sealed his own fate of being neglected for the next month-plus. Poor dear.

| Kinda scary to think about what my laundry pile will look like when I'm actually ignoring it, isn't it? I mean, this is just a normal day's run. Hmmm. |
For my homeschooling friends, here's a happy link for your weekend: Homeschooling Held Hostage. Read it! It's inspiring. :)

So glad I found your blog! I live in Spokane as well...and I agree...they should have called snow days a few times earlier this winter. I work at a pediatric clinic and we usually go by Spokane's school schedule (and it would have been nice to get those days off!). Looking forward to reading more from your blog! Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI have to comment on your colorful laundry baskets! I must say that I strongly suspect you of purchasing them simply for their photographic potential. Nothing like a rainbow of baskets to make laundry look glamorous! :-)
ReplyDeleteI plead the 5th. ;)
DeleteI am going out tomorrow and getting colorful laundry baskets to photograph, and maybe inspire me to do laundry.
DeleteHi! I didn't know you lived in Spokane! But now that I do, I was wondering if you know about the Spokane Just Between Friends Sale- Great place to get a twin nursing pillow or twin stroller or whatever... You can just search JBF Spokane if you are interested! I live in MT but come over every Spring and Fall for that. I wish I could give you all my twin stuff that I don't need anymore! By the way, the very best thing your friends can do for you is give you a diaper shower- seriously. Just specify what kind you like the best- if they ever do that for you! Can't wait to hear what you are planning to do for meals... That was so hard to find time to get in the kitchen!! Anyway- have fun with your class!
ReplyDeleteI'll look it up! Thank you!
DeleteWow! You make stacked laundry look beautiful! What a great reason not to do it...you're practicing your photography. What a great gift! And yes, you and your kids will be living in your p.j's until the course is over but that's awesome!
ReplyDeleteI'm green over your gift! You are going to have a blast. I think I have some MRE's around here somewhere. Do I need to send them for the kids? BTW, we have a teeny, tiny, minuscule chance of snow flurries here for in the morning. Is it wrong that I am praying for snow?
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like such a thoughtful present that Andy gave you. Have fun with it! I love the balloon pictures...very cute!
ReplyDeleteOkay, this comment is completely random (I do have to admit that I had to think for a minute about the word "processing" in terms of digital photography. I learned photography with a film camera so when i think processing I picture dark room, chemical trays, etc... I have a LONG way to go with my digital camera:)!)... okay onto my question: I have fully adopted Andrew Pudewa's suggestion to use pens instead of pencils and it has saved us SO MUCH TIME and energy in our school day (especially with my son). In your close-up of Tulip writing, I noticed she was using pen. One of my frustrations of this change is I have not found pens that the kids like at an affordable price. A friend suggested microns but they are so expensive and I have third and kindergarteners-- seriously, I'm not going to spend a lot of money on pens. Have you found a brand you/ your kids like that is moderately affordable?
ReplyDeleteOh, and I love the photos. You really do capture the moments so worth remembering. Posy and the book- priceless. I, too, love the laundry baskets. :)
Convert to pens! I love that mantra of Andrew Pudewa's. :) Something about hearing a faithful Catholic say "Convert to the one true religion: pens" makes me giggle every time. (eye roll)
DeleteI haven't really found a good affordable pen. My kids much prefer gel pens (or at least those inky smooth kind- I'm sure they have a real name but I don't know what it is) over ball-point. And you're right- they are more expensive! Whenever I buy a few for myself, they disappear. ;) I think what Tulip is using in that picture is a Pilot Precise Grip. I have no idea where it came from, so probably my husband's stash?
I tend to stock up on office and school supplies when they go on sale at the beginning of the school year, so next year I'll be keeping my eye out for more of these kinds of pens, and just load up!
Quite an excellent Valentine gift, I'd say! More than anything, don't you love being understood? I mean, I know we're supposed to seek more to understand than be understood, but you know...
ReplyDeleteYes! Exactly. :)
DeleteI just have to say that when you mentioned CM University, I thought, "There's a Charlotte Mason University?!?" and got all sorts of excited.
ReplyDeleteOh I'm sorry! I got your hopes up and then dashed them! ;)
DeleteOhmygosh, I love the laundry photo. It looks like my house. LOL Have fun at the workshop!
ReplyDeleteCrazy, funny as always!! Goodness knows what you'll be like once the twinnies arrive!!
ReplyDeleteI thought about you on Ash Wednesday, will check out your link homeschool held hostage.
San xx
Lucky! Is it the photoshop class? I just finished Shooting 201 Beyond the Basics as a study along and loved it.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog, btw.
It's the Lightroom class. I bought LR not too long ago and feel like I'm just bumbling around in the dark, using it! I'm ready to really learn how to make it work for me. This will be my first CM class. I'm so excited!
DeleteThose baskets of laundry totally freak me out! At least they're colorful!
ReplyDeleteso, update me on why pens instead of pencils...? Might be something I need to know!
ReplyDeleteBecause kids- especially perfectionist-leaning kids, tend to spend too much time erasing. Pudewa says a child who writes in pencil will spend more time erasing than actually writing! And more time is wasted sharpening, too. He's really big on not wearing a child out, so I think the use of pens is meant to make better use of smaller chunks of time. Also, he makes a case that tired-hand-syndrome is worse when using pencils because kids have to press harder than they do with pens.
DeleteHe wrote a short paper on it, and you can see it here: Convert... to pens!
